Inside Michoacan’s Mango Diversity: TAAMAY’s Field Trip.

During the first weeks of March we visited our new mango associate in Michoacan, Mexico to prepare the team for the heading Mango season. The journey south into the state, amidst the very hot weather, felt like heading in the right direction to discover the best mangoes to be shared with the world. The area is teeming with mango trees of all varieties; from the in-season Ataulfo to the soon-to-be ripe Haden and Tommy Atkins. We even caught a glimpse of our grower’s young Kent mangoes, patiently waiting for their time later in the year.

After a day of touring the mango fields under the scorching 34-degree heat and obtaining our promotional materials, our hosts graciously invited us for a meal. This informal setting allowed us to get to know each other better and indulge in some traditional local cuisine.

As part of our mission in sourcing activities, we aim to deeply engage with our partners’ needs, processes, and strengths. Understanding the people behind the produce helps us better respond to the needs and commitments of international markets. Building strong personal relationships with our growers allows us to work as a cohesive team and maintain professionalism throughout the supply chain.

After inspecting the fruit and detailing the plans with our grower, we are now able to ensure that we’ll have all mango varieties available for the whole season till September. This means we can guarantee a steady supply of mangoes of different types, and we’ll make sure they meet our quality standards.

Ataulfo, Haden, Tommy Atkins or Kent you choose!
